We found this video game system at a yard sale today. If you have
already read the V.Smile page, then
you will recognize that a lot of this text is a carbon copy from that
page. The systems are pretty much identical except that the V. Motion
uses a wireless, motion-sensitive controller instead of the standard
wired controller and the addition of a V.Link module.
Marketed for 3-7 year olds, the games are actually pretty fun and the
sprite-based graphics are better than you'd expect from a toy. The
games (released on ROM cartridges called 'Smartridges') that have been
released for this system are edutainment (educational entertainment)
oriented featuring all of the popular kid's characters like
SpongeBob, Winnie the Pooh and Nemo - which just happen to be three
of the four that we got with the system. It is worth noting
that the games for the earlier V.Smile will play on the V.Motion
console as well.
The controller for the V.Motion is a wireless infrared controller
that utilizes WII-type motion-sensing to make game play more fun.
The is a huge button to one side
that controls most of the games actions. Three more
smaller buttons are labeled Help, Exit and 'Learning Zone' which
takes you take a minigame section of the title. On the other side
is an analog joystick, which can be swapped over to the left
side by way a locking mechanism underneath the controller. You can
optionally use a wired controller similar to the V.Smile model.
Another new feature in the V.Motion is the V.Link module. Notice a
V.Theme here? Anyway, the V.Link is not only a memory card on which
you can save your progress, but it also acts as a key that you can
use to unlock addition internet-based games. The farther you advance
in the console games, the more games and activities you are able to
unlock on the
vsmilelink
website.
Power for the console is supplied by either four AA batteries or an
AC power adapter rated at 9vdc 300mA tip-positive. Power for the
wireless controller is supplied by three AAA batteries.
