We found this video game system at a yard sale last week. I think
this was the highlight of our yad sale adventures that weekend. Not
only does it fit neatly into the empty spot I had lying around on
my web site, but it also filled a need for my girlfriend - what with
her Winnie the Pooh addiction an all :)
Marketed for 3-7 year olds, the games are actually pretty fun and the
sprite-based graphics are better than you'd expect from a toy. The
games (released on ROM cartridges called 'Smartridges') that have been
released for this system are edutainment (educational entertainment)
oriented featuring all of the popular kid's characters like
SpongeBob, Winnie the Pooh and Nemo - which just happen to be three
of the four that we got with the system. It is interesting to note
that the games for the later V.Motion will play on the V.Smile
console in a limited capacity.
The controller is huge by video game standards. It looks like a bear
paw with four colored buttons as the claw. The is a huge button in
the center that controls most of the games actions. Three more
smaller buttons are labeled Help, Exit and 'Learning Zone' which
takes you take a minigame section of the title. Off to the right of
the paw is an analog joystick, which can be swapped over to the left
side by way a locking mechanism underneath the controller.
Power is supplied by either three C-size batteries or an AC power
adapter rated at 9vdc 300mA tip-positive.
