This game system experienced an extremely short lifespan. Discontinued in 2007, the HyperScan was less than one year old at the time of it's death.

Simple in design, I think the HyperScan had more potential than it was given time to prove. Or maybe it was just poor marketing. Whatever the reason, only five games were officially release for this system. There is a thriving, albeit small, online community that has succeeded in proving that homebrew software can be written, with talk of the possibility of a Linux shell!

What set this system apart from all the others was the RFID trading card concept. Each game with six trading cards, each with it's own unique embedded RFID chip, with 'booster packs' available to collect and trade. Sort of like a high-tech Pokemon, I guess. You would use the cards by simply holding them up to the RFID reader built in to the main unit. By doing this, you could select different characters to play and increase your arsenal or defenses.
