This is one of many systems that I had lying around that I didn't even know I had! I was cleaning up my computer 'dungeon' the other day and came across this thing - no screws in the case, PCB corroded, metal shielding rusted in spots and the plastic case was covered in dirt. It looked like this thing had been outside in the weather for months. Being the me that I am, I couldn't stand to see a poor little computer system go unloved. I took into my shop, cleaned it up and - to the best of my knowledge - it's working just fine now. I say to the best of my knowledge because, according to the schematic, the switching regulator isn't turned on unless a cartridge is inserted. Apparently I have cartridges for every video game system made except for this one!

Anyway, on a technical note, this is one of the last systems that Atari released before their demise. With only less than 200,000 units having been sold, the Jaguar is considered a failure, although there are still to this day homebrew games being created and sold for this 64-bit cult classic.

In addition to the complicated and awkward controller with it's proprietary 15-pin, high-density d-sub connector, there was also a CD-ROM drive that plugged into the cartridge port and a JagTag - a device to connect two Jaguars together - released. A voice modem and a virtual reality headset never made it into production before the systems demise in 1995.
