R2-D2 Cassette Player
item #88-083 by Tiger/Hasbro

This latest R2 to come into my home is by far the coolest cassette player I've ever owned. At almost 11" tall, this is not to be confused with the walkman-style "Personal Cassette Player" that was put out around the same time.

In addition to the standard "Stop," "FFwd" and "Play" functions, there are also four buttons on the front that, when pressed, reproduce R2-D2 sound effects straight from the movie. There is even a red light on the dome that flickers to the music. And just in case your family or friends don't appreciate that "Sounds of Dagobah" cassette you just picked up, there is the obligatory headphone jack. Rounding out the design of your new player is a hide-away carrying handle and storage space for two cassette tapes.
